#134 Year of the Horse (not good for horses)
Monday, 3 February 2014

Just as the title of the entry suggests, this wasn't the best CNY for me. School's technically supposed to have started today for me, but I'm home on MC because I've been suffering from food poisoning since Saturday. Not quite sure what was it that I ate, but all that matters now is for me to recover as soon as possible. Kind of sucks because I'm missing out on all the good food, but I guess the silver lining in this is that I'm actually losing weight during the lunar new year. #pollyanna

I didn't take any photos of myself, not that I didn't bother dressing up whilst visiting (I'm sick, not handicapped, ha-ha). It's just that a lot of the clothes that I wore have been photographed before, LOL. Hence, I turned my attention to taking pictures of my baby niece instead. TOO. CUTE. I'm glad to have her in my life. She definitely made the festive season much better despite me being sick. Visiting is less mundane now with her around as well. Sadly, I try not to get too close to her now that I'm not feeling well since food poisoning or stomach flu can be spread through the air.

The holidays seem to have just flown by, or is it just me? Really hope the rest of the year doesn't go as badly as how it started for me. Year of the Horse, how can it be unlucky for horses :(

XOXO, T.

How was everyone's reunion dinner?! I hope everyone had a truly enjoyable reunion dinner. Mine was great, although it started ridiculously early (6.00pm on the dot). My family has a knack for eating crazy early and we were done by the time it was 7.00pm. LOL, post dinner activity included sitting around sipping white wine and snacking on pineapple tarts, gossipping about our relatives, playing with my niece and planning the rough schedule for visiting the next day. Oh and yes, the "loan shark" looking photo was just me being bored and having fun with a hideously tacky shirt that belongs to my brother. I think it gave my Instagram followers a good laugh, ha-ha. Looking forward to collecting red packets tomorrow!

#7 Year of the Snake
Wednesday, 13 February 2013

So the first 3 days of CNY are over... School officially starts again for me tomorrow -sad face- I've been slacking even though I have an assignment due on the coming Monday and I've not started working on it at all. Damn fucking sian to have to go back to school this Saturday, from 0815H - 1845H for make up lessons. Up till now, I still believe the SMU should get their professors to work their teaching schedules around the public holidays, to spare us all the pain of losing our precious weekends. Bah, might very likely skip the morning class since I have a dinner to attend AFTER ethics lesson.

I've managed to take a bunch of random photos over this festive period. Much to my surprise (and I'm sure more to yours), there's hardly any photos of me. I only took one(?) #ootd photo; okay there was another one that was taken on the first day but I look really gross so I'm not going to post it.

My mum prepared these flowers for me to bathe with on the first day, probably for good luck.

Pretty Baby Tara.

Not so pretty here. Became increasingly grumpy as she had problems taking her naps.

I'm so thankful for all the babies that my relatives have given birth to. I know this comment sounds weird, but having 7 kids (age ranging from a couple of months - 9 years old) running about the house makes my CNY so much more fun and interesting. Before the next generation came along, visiting was literally a mind numbingly dull process. There's no one around my age because I'm the youngest, so I just sit around and watch everyone gamble, until it's finally time to leave and head to another household to stone some more.

Now, with all these children running around, I have people to entertain myself with. And I've got to say, it's definitely an experience watching the kids grow up. Most of them are well behaved, so they aren't a handful. And I say this because I'm not a kids person; hate them in crowded public transports, hate them in general shopping areas. There has been so many times I just want to grab a kid by his/her toes and shake them until they shut up. But... I'm biased towards children who are related to me or belong to my friends. So, I love all my nieces and nephews deeply :) Also helps that, like I mentioned earlier, they are all brought up properly and are well behaved, most of them anyway.

Went over to Zirca that night for the LAST SUPERSTAR SUNDAY :( To be honest, should have totally seen this day coming; ever since Avalon started operating on Sundays as well, business has definitely taken a hit over at Zirca (and business wasn't exactly bustling to begin with). Felt like almost everyone went down that night to party for the last time. The place was soooo fucking packed. The only time I remember it being so crowded was during the uniform party a year or 2 back. Oh and yes, the cat faces are there to protect the identity of my more discreet friends.

Got so freaking high that night, can't remember exactly how much I drank and smoked. Good indication of how high I was - woke up the next day with 3 bruises on my right leg and an injured left wrist. Apparently, I fell off the chair and I don't even recollect this incident happening - good job Tristan. Either way, I HAD A BLAST. Woke up the next day without a hangover too, double hurrah!

This is the only photo I have from the second day of CNY. Thank god that every year on the second day, people come over to my place. So I slept till about noon-ish, before heading downstairs in my sleep attire and bed head to eat lunch. Similar to every CNY, mummy made POPIAH! Lost count of how many I ate, but I'm sure the weighing scale will jolt my memory soon enough. Spent the rest of the afternoon playing with the kids, but they eventually got bored of me and turned to the iPads. Next year must put on Drag Show for them already, LOL.

#ootd

More family visiting on the third day, which is different because usually on the third day, I'll swing by friends' home to hang out. However this year, only one friend invited me over to his place. Couldn't make it though cause I was over at my sister-in-law's god mother's house (that was a mouthful) and he asked me quite late into the day. Had to head on over to my in-law's place after that as well; at least that was the original plan. In the end, my sister-in-law's dad had the fever so we stayed home. Ho hum* Yeah, kind of a boring end to my CNY, but this festive period has never been particularly exciting to begin with, heh.

Can't wait to collect more red packets and eat more good food over this weekend :D All the money received this year will be channelled towards spending on my summer exchange. Okay, tummy is making noise, time to head downstairs for second round of steamboat with the family! #fatdieme

#6 Year of the Snake (eve)
Sunday, 10 February 2013

Happy Chinese New Year Everyone! It's that time of the year, where all I look forward to the moment I wake up is to collect money from relatives I hardly meet and eat like it's the end of the world :D If you haven't heard this before, let me just reiterate the point: which is that the older you get, the less special Chinese New Year becomes. The excitement of decorating the house, shopping for new clothes, eating the delicious goodies - it all just loses it's magic with each passing year. *jaded* I guess though, it'll be a bit more interesting now with my niece in my life. Will be fun to see how different each CNY will be like as she gets older.

These photos are actually from the eve of the eve - had a pre-reunion dinner with the boys over at The Magic of Chong Qing Hot Pot (Tanglin Shopping Centre). Shout-out to Ian for arranging this get-together and sourcing for the location AND for making the reservation :) Much love to you for being so awesome!

Had drinks over at Wine Connection before dinner because we made a later reservation to accommodate those who didn't have half day or full day off on Friday.
The place only has buffets, but instead of going around taking what you want, you can just order from the waitresses who will bring the food to you. It's sort of like what you get at Bugis, but with much better quality food and ambiance. First of all, it's much more spacious. It's also better ventilated. Of course, the place is also twice the price of what you pay at Bugis. But personally, it's a once a year kind of thing, and I'd rather pay more for better service and atmosphere than scrim and suffer at a cheaper alternative; FYI, we were a group of 10, dining anywhere in Bugis would have been a nightmare.
(of course after saying all this, my heart still aches a teensy bit since I'm basically balancing my social life with the small allowance I get from my dad, sigh pie)

Brought baby girl over to Nebo today to Lou Hei with the staff :) She is so freaking adorable I can't even... Haven't been back to Nebo in a while now, things still look more or less the same, but I took a peek at the weekly schedule; aside from Kat and Leshia, I have no idea who the rest of the part timers are. Think it was a wise decision on my part to stop working there; the pay honestly sucks and the place is just ridiculously far to travel to for a part time job.

Brother over ordered like crazy - this was for about 10 people, of which 7 were girls.

HUAT AH!

Was nice to catch up with everyone, haven't seen most of them since August 2012 (around the time school started). Took a few photos after we Lou Hei-ed. Thereafter, began the messy process of cleaning up after ourselves - we're pretty violent Lou Hei-ers, ha-ha. Everyone had to rush off because of reunion dinner. Was so stuffed, but my parents were hungry so we started cooking early that night. Didn't end up eating much, but it's okay, because with the amount of leftover food, my mum will plan to have steamboat again on another day.

Okay, I need to go get ready for more visiting. Came home to rest for a short while because baby girl hasn't slept the whole day and was getting cranky over at my uncle's place. Will update more about the rest of CNY, probably on the 2nd or 3rd day, before school starts. *sigh pie*

XOXO, T.
